2023 POSTCARD FROM CYPRUS Monday 3 April – Monday 17 April 2023

My flight from Gatwick to Paphos was delayed by two hours so not a good start. BA were dreadful at the airport – no one called us for our flight!  I fought my way to the front of a queue and eventually got on board only to find that my seat in Row 2 was in fact a front row so you couldn’t keep your bag with you.  Thankfully the lady behind me wanted to sit next to her mum who was next to me – so we swapped seats and after that it was relatively plain sailing.  Of course, the luggage took forever to arrive once in Paphos, and it took a while to find my taxi.  However once in my hotel I had a nice room with a good balcony overlooking the garden/pool/sea!

The first day I was exhausted and spent it relaxing in the sunshine in the garden.  Sadly, the pool is not heated so I can’t see me doing much swimming, if any!  The first couple of days were spent lying in the sunshine in the garden, sometimes when the breeze got up a towel was pulled over my tummy!  Sadly the weather went downhill after that and it was cloudy and chilly, often with the odd rain shower.  Thankfully I had my tapestry with me so sat indoors sewing for quite a few days.

I did absolutely nothing except laze in the Gardens in the morning, well wrapped up, in spite of the inclement weather and then do my tapestry in my suite in the afternoons.  Did an hour long walk along the beach front one afternoon, but there is nothing to see but hotel after hotel.  Having been to Paphos before I did not walk all the way to the castle/port.

The last three days had sunny starts but always cool and usually cloudy in the afternoon, except for the final day when the sun stayed out all day!   Felt one degree under for most of the two weeks as I continuously woke coughing each night.  As I was more or less OK during the day I wondered if it was my pillows.  Eventually got them changed and it did make a bit of a difference on the last couple of nights, but my throat was not good from all the coughing.

Was glad to be going home on the final Monday.  Thankfully the flight left early and we got to Gatwick half an hour early – 11pm.  So I was home by 1am!  The holiday was rather spoilt by poor weather and a bad cough.
