2020-21 POSTCARD FROM TENERIFE Sunday 20 December – Tuesday 5 January
I had a challenging few days before take-off for Tenerife. First my hotel closed its doors, but moved me to their sister hotel [not adults-only!], then BA cancelled my outward flight so I got on to another, and then BA cancelled my return flight, so got to another. Then Royal Mail lost my priority mail with my Covid Test, so the people I was dealing with kindly sent a courier with another test, waited for me to do it, and sent the necessary certificate the next day, but by then it was too late for my flight, so I changed it to the next day. Fortunately flights are not full!!! On the night before I was due to fly I had my Covid Test certificate, my QR code for Spain and I had checked into my flight when Boris announced that I couldn’t travel the next day. So not to be out-done, I travelled to the airport that day [ie not leaving my residence on the ’said’ day!], and hence I was able to walk to my flight on the Sunday morning from my hotel, took off at midday and landed at 4pm! The first day was a bit cloudy, so left the pool early and went to the supermarket to get some wine. Had great difficulty in finding my way out of the hotel, but fortunately bumped into an English gentleman who guided me the easy way out! Tuesday was a glorious day and my tan improved a little. After that a very chilly breeze made life by the pool cool and uncomfortable so, on Wednesday and Thursday, as soon as I had swum a few lengths in their rather chilly pool, I retired to my balcony which is well protected from the wind. In fact on Thursday the pool was completely deserted!
For half board dinner is always in the same restaurant, so am beginning to get rather bored with the menu, but as food is not top of my priority list, it doesn’t worry me too much. Christmas Day breakfast was weird - everyone very behind hand in the restaurant. Live music was ghastly but thankfully it started an hour late, just when I had almost finished my breakfast! Rather cloudy miserable day but went down did 8 lengths in the freezing deserted pool! Dinner was OK, but didn’t really enjoy the food – and there was far too much of it!
New Year’s Eve dinner was ghastly – I walked out half way through. The rest of my stay was quiet – swimming first thing and then lying on my balcony for the rest of the day, even though it wasn’t always that warm! Sadly, was especially cool the last couple of days.
Good flight back with BA – only 16 people on my flight
