POSTCARD FROM RAVELLO [ITALY] 23 JUNE - 2 JULY 2017

I had a bad start at Gatwick Airport where a Jobsworth Security lady decided that the buttons on my blouse made me a high risk and took me into a private room to strip search me.  In fact when I opened my blouse for her to search and all she found was my skin she cleared me straight way.  I embarrassed her!!!  Never in all my many years of travelling I have been treated like that before.  Once back at Security to pick up my hand luggage “Mrs Jobsworth” then decided to search it as though I was a criminal.  She should be in the USA where they are just like that!

Anyway a good flight, and drive through beautiful scenery to Ravello, and I then checked into a tiny little 3-4 star hotel with stunning views.  Went into the town to get some water and some wine, and then relaxed for the evening, even though my wifi not working that well.

Spent the next few days relaxing by the pool, wandering around Ravello in the early evening, and then dining either in the stunning hotel restaurant or in the delightful little town of Ravello.

On Wednesday we had a few spots of rain in the late afternoon, but I left the pool early as I was having an early dinner to go to a Chopin/Liszt Concert at 9pm.  It was a really lovely concert played by Cinzia Dato, but it meant a rather late evening.

On Thursday I set off on a bus to Amalfi around 12.30 to catch a boat cruise to Positano but the wind was such that all boat trips were cancelled. I decided to do the trip by bus but so did a million others.  Roads in that part of the world are pretty hairy and to travel on coaches filled to the brim was not a comfortable experience.  I had to fight my way on a return bus [bus number two and there were still hundreds waiting] and stand most of the way from Positano to Amalfi.  I had a strong drink in Amalfi before attempting the second leg from Amalfi to Ravello, another hairy and busy bus ride!  However I am glad that I made it to Positano, which I enjoyed in spite of it being rather touristy these days.

After that it was two quiet days by the pool although the management do their best to spoil it by allowing their own noisy kids to use the guests' pool.

A fairly easy journey home on Sunday, although BA did their best to spoil things.  Terrible check-in procedures, and waiting in the heat for 20 minutes for a bus to take us to the plane.  However on the whole a good relaxing holiday.
