Postcard from Dubai - December 2013-January 2014
After a very smooth, if late [thanks to a
crazy passenger] flight from Dubai, I checked into my nice room around 1am, and
so, after unpacking, was very late to bed, although it was still early by UK time.
There were a few clouds around on day one,
but I spent it by the pool on the 30th floor as the other pool was
under renovation until Christmas Eve. On
day two it rained all day [!] but after that the sun came out and I spent my
days on the 30th floor, as the ground floor pool lost the sun at
lunchtime. The days were sunny but there
was a very chill wind, which kept the temperature down.
I spent one morning on a tour of the new
city of Dubai – it was an interesting tour but not very well handled. I did at least get to the top of the tallest
building in the world!
I was lucky to have the Hyatt Club Lounge
to go to in the evening, as well as breakfast, where I met one or two people
for chat. Usually their food was good
enough [if not brilliant!] for me not to worry about finding dinner in one of
the hotel restaurants! I had dinner one
evening at Dubai’s only revolving restaurant on top of the hotel – not a bad
meal but very very expensive.
A relaxing holiday but sadly not as warm as
I had hoped for. It was a challenge to
get from the pool [warm water] to the sun bed without freezing in the wind!
My flight home was very comfortable as I
was upgraded to First Class, although a noisy child nearby was not good
news. Thankfully it was a daytime
flight.
