POSTCARD FROM LANZAROTE - 16-27th February 2017
I had fairly tough day getting to my hotel
in Lanzarote. Take off was soon after
7am on Thursday 16 February from Gatwick so not much sleep that night. A good flight, but on arrival I had a problem
finding my driver and when I got to the Hotel Volcan, they kept me waiting for
two hours for my room – and it would have been three hours if I hadn’t created
a big fuss at reception. However by 2.30
I was up on the 6th floor of The Club Volcan, where there is a quiet
pool and no kids. I collapsed in the sunshine
for a couple of hours. Nobody had showed
me around the hotel so that evening after a few drinks in the Club Lounge I had
some supper in my room as I had not a clue where I was and where the
restaurants were.
The next two days I spent soaking up the
sunshine all day and stayed very quiet, resting a strained my tummy muscle
[from a bad cough earlier in the week].
In the evening I found a nice Italian restaurant in the hotel and
enjoyed my meal there both evenings. The
following day, Sunday, was rather cloudy but the next few days the weather was
more or less the same – a lots of clouds, and occasional showers, but plenty of
sunshine – you just had to cover up when the sun went in as it was quite cool
and run for shelter when it rained. The
last few days the weather was cool and the sun struggled in the morning,
however it usually came out for a couple of hours in the afternoons.
Unfortunately my Indian infection returned
on the last Friday, which kept me in my room one afternoon and evening. Thankfully I had some antibiotics with me, so
I started them to get out and about again.
Most evenings I walked to the Marina for
dinner, which was a bit of a track but cheaper than the hotel, except for the
Italian, which was difficult to get into, however, I did manage another two
evenings there where the manager spoilt me with some delicious Italian drinks!
On Monday 27th I travelled home
arriving at Gatwick 20 minutes early. A
tricky journey as my infection was still with me – but made it home before
8pm. A reasonable holiday but rather
spoilt by my health and by chill winds on the island.
