Postcard from Sirmione, Italy - 11-19 September 2015
I had a dreadful journey from Gatwick to
Verona – there was apparently no aircraft for us, but we eventually took off at
nearly 10.30 rather than 6.30 on the Friday evening. I got to my hotel in Sirmione at 1.30 in the
morning! I spent a quiet hour unpacking
and sorting myself out!
Fortunately day one was glorious so it was
spent by the pool slowly cooking! As
always my little hotel was comfortable, although my room was particularly
small! The food was, as ever, excellent!
On day two the weather took a turn for the
worse, so I headed off by fast ferry to Garda.
After a walk around there I walked to Bardolino, but didn’t see much to
attract me this time so walked all the way back to Garda. Stopped by a restaurant for a drink and some
lunch, but that was a disaster with a particularly nasty type of
restaurateur. The food he produced was
so awful that I couldn’t eat it. I
offered to pay even though I hadn’t eaten it, and he got pretty horrible with
me telling me he didn’t want my money, so I duly walked out. The rains then came down in torrents so I headed
back to the ferry to Sirmione.
The rest of the week was part cloud and
part sunny, getting sunnier as the week progressed. Took a lovely walk around the Sirmione
peninsula on Wednesday morning while waiting for the clouds to move on! Other that I lay in the garden by the pool
each day, with my only real excitement being a wasp sting, which was pretty
painful!
Thankfully a better return journey – just five
and a half hours door to door!
